In the course of our discussions with both clients and candidates, two of the topics that are coming up most frequently in the current market are (i) working from home/hybrid working and (ii) maternity leave policies.
With any new assignment that we work on, the working pattern is now a standard discussion point, something that most candidates will have clear preferences on. For clients, our impression is that for many this remains a fluid issue – that was a commonly held view in many of our discussions with GCs at The Lawyer General Counsel Summit last month.
Turning to maternity leave policy, we have found this to be an increasingly material consideration for candidates when considering new opportunities, both in terms of the qualification period for new joiners and the level of enhanced benefit. For some we speak to, the maternity policy partly informs that candidate’s view on the company’s broader equity, diversity and inclusion agenda.
